Perhaps a better title would be Throwback
Thursday Wednesday, because these photos were taken a while ago. To be exact, in April this year, when my parents were here for Maria’s first birthday. One day, we rented a car and drove to the small town of Kawhia, about 40 kilometers southwest of Hamilton.
Kawhia Hot Water Beach Adventure
The first time we visited Kawhia was last year. We had gone to see the Bridal Veil Falls near Raglan and gone from there directly to Kawhia via a nerve-racking gravel road. Thankfully, the road from Hamilton was much better.
Kawhia is a sleepy little town. Apart from Maori children playing and biking there is little to see and do. But one thing makes Kawhia well worth a visit: its Hot Water Beach. Get a spade, head to Ocean Beach when the tide is low and start digging for your own hot water spa.
So last April, we got the spade, we made it to the beach at the right time and dug a hole. It was hard work, I must say. Perhaps my mom and I are not the best diggers, because every minute we had to do some maintenance at our spa or we would be washed away by the waves. Maria, however, enjoyed her hot water treatment very much.
