Visiting a tulip festival may not seem like the most exciting of things to do during the weekend, but with a timid sun peeking from behind the weeks of dark clouds, a little nostalgia and a two-year old who loves everything involving music and dance, it suddenlyturns into the perfect morning.
We started the morning off great with a late birthday present: breakfast at my favorite cafe. Ten minutes before they opened we arrived, hungry and ready to enter! Eagerly, Maria tried to open the door, which was closed tightly.
Our patience was rewarded when the door opened at 7:30 a.m. sharp. We sat down, Maria got some toys to play with, ordered our meals, made some photos and devoured every morsel on our plates.
From there, we drove to the Hamilton Gardens, where the tulip festival took place. As we got there, the last few lines of the Dutch national anthem filled the air. This was going to be big!
Of course it wasn’t. Yes, there were a few tulips. Yes, there was a Dutch organ, folk dances, stroopwafels and poffertjes. The smell of Dutch cheese, oliebollenย and other treats filled the hall. But highlight of the morning was seeing Maria dancing, clapping, blowing bubbles. Here are some more snapshots of the morning.
Lovely pictures of a lovely girl! ๐
